If you are just learning to play craps, you will need to know what kinds of bets you can make when you play. There are several different bets that you can make, and to be competitive, you should understand the differences among them and why you would choose one kind of bet over another.

The first thing to know about betting is that you should always bet on time. It is a breach of etiquette and considered rude to bet late. Fire bets are not always allowed, so you need to find out from the dealer if this type of bet can be made at the table where you are playing. A pass line bet is a loser if the come out roll is a 2, 3 or 12. If the come out roll is a point, the shooter can win a pass line bet if he rolls another point with his next toss. If the shooter reaches 7 on the next roll, however, the pass line bet is lost.

A don't pass bet works in the reverse way. A don't pass bet is a winner if the come out roll is a 2 or 3. If the come out roll is a 12, most casinos will consider that a draw. If the come out roll is a point, a don't pass bet will also be won if the next toss is also a point, just as with a pass line bet. A don't pass bet is lost if the come out roll is a 7. Many players refrain from making don't pass bets because they are superstitious about them. Avoiding no pass bets and being sure not to bet late are the two superstitions for which many craps players are known.

When you are learning online craps betting, the best strategy is to use a variety of bets. Experiment with how the different types of bets feel and bet low in the beginning until you get the hang of it. That way you won't have to worry about losing much money while you are learning to play.
